Latent Print Trainee positions

The Army has positions available for latent print examiners. No experience necessary, a full latent fingerprint development and comparison training program is included for new hires with no experience. Please note that these are deployable positions. Term of deployment is six months on completion of training. Of course, pay while on deployment is much higher than the pay quoted in the job announcement as the salary while serving at a lab in the US.

It was my original belief that this was a "no experience necessary" job announcement, which would have been pay grade GS-07. It has been brought to my attention that there is a requirement for one year's experience to apply for the jobs in the announcement, as it is pay grade GS-09.

Without any intent to contradict the requirements given in the job announcement, I would like to encourage applicants with any experience in crime scene, latent print, or criminal history experience to apply. Please consider listing internships and volunteer work. Also, I have been assured that an MS degree with strong laboratory experience and science background may fulfill the experience requirement without any actual service in a crime lab. To interested persons, I would suggest you submit an application. Failure to qualify on one application will not affect future applications in any way. List anything that would count as experience and justify it. The absolute worst that could happen is you don't make the list this time, but you are free to apply without prejudice for future announcements.

The previous posting referred to the listing of a GS-0072 position "Fingerprint Specialist" starting at pay grade GS-09. Today a new listing at http://www.usajobs.com lists as GS-1301 position, "Physical Scientist (Forensic Latent Print Examiner)," also starting at pay grade GS-09. The new listing states the experience requirement differently and it specifically allows consideration of an MS degree for the year of experience required.

An applicant may only be considered for the position he has applied for. If a person only applies for the 0072 position, he/she may not be considered for the 1301 opening. Therefor, you increase your chances if you apply for both positions.
