This week I jumped back to
distortion/interesting and away from scars and disruptions. The FIG this
week is from a trigger of a firearm (pistol 9mm). Now I have only seen 4
others from triggers. Two from agencies I have worked in the past, one from
Phoenix and one from Washington State. It is not something you see very
often. I am sure there are some people that see them once a week but for me,
they are a rare occurrence.
1st download and open the latent print (link at the bottom) and look at it to determine orientation.
Now it was processed with CA Fuming and then dye stained and captured with a
Canon digital camera.
2nd Open the inked print marked FIG24AIP. I apologize for the inked print
but out of four sets of cards on this subject this is the only one where the
detail above the core was not smudged and since it is a live scan, the thumb
cut into the right side of the inked print. We are working on getting
another set.
3rd Open the 1-1. The latent has been color corrected and converted with
PS-CS. Some minutiae have been marked. We could get additional minutiae by
going down and to the right on a different card. I apologize for the
orientation, but I threw this one together real fast and I am going back in
to rescan it with the correct orientation.
I think it is interesting (besides being from a trigger) by the transition
area from the movement smear at the bottom left of the latent and then to
the clear ridge structure. The smear area to the bottom left did give us a
little problem with orientation in the beginning, but the examiner stuck
with it and resolved the distortion problem. When doing the Analysis always
look for transitions. Also the preverbal three going in and two coming out
at the dark area to the top right center.
